shoot on rodeo drive

So blessed to work in Beverly Hills. Beautiful weather today. I schlepped my 27 inch i-mac up to the rooftop of the Luxe Hotel on Rodeo Drive for the day and setup my temp office digs. So in between shots of actress Willa Holland by photographer Tracey Morris (one of my favorites), I got to edit images of our shoot by first-time Genlux shooter Masha Maltava and downloaded (with the help of Robert Morris) the shoot by San Francisco photographer Samantha Wolov. Was going back and forth with publicists from Casa del Mar and the Ritz Carlton downtown—both beautiful locations but struck out. Since Monday is a holiday, neither could react in time to host our cover shoot with Katheryn Winnick by photographer Marc Baptiste. So we opted for shooting in studio. We'll be setting up at Aesthesia Studios in Culver City. A brilliant studio with a great outdoor cyc.

My office for the day on the penthouse of the Luxe Hotel on Rodeo Drive. A beautiful day.

Actress Willa Holland as Elizabeth Taylor from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She looks all of 12. Nothing a little lighting and photoshop won't be able to fix.

The shoot today was styled by Angel Terrazas. Hair was by Aaron Light / Celestine Agency. Makeup was by Christina Henry / Artists by Timothy Priano. Manicure by Beth Fricke / Artists by Timothy Priano

i popped downstairs for a few minutes during the shoot to interview actress Shane Lynch who appears in the upcoming issue of Genlux. She's the delightful daughter of actress Kelly Lynch. A super genuine and down-to-earth being whose parents wouldn't allow her to start acting until she'd finished college. So she went and graduated from Wesleyan. She majored in history and...voila—now she's acting. Put this one on your "watch" list—she's going to be accepting an Oscar soon! Sunday my San Francisco 49ers are playing the Seattle Seahawks for the NFC Championship! Then it's on to the Super Bowl!

creative director

last month, genlux hosted the gilles bensimon photographic exhibition at the sofitel hotel in los angeles, and i had the opportunity to interview gilles. i asked him what emotion or feeling he liked the most. his one-word answer was simple and, well, perfect. "desire," gilles said.

for most creative people, its our desire that drives us to take the perfect photo or to make the perfect dress or to design the perfect room or to write the perfect story. of course, we rarely, if ever, reach perfection, but it's our desire that drives us to continue to try.

conversely, it's our lack of desire that drives us away from creating. case in point. for the past year, i've hated to come to our own website. dreaded working on it. ignored it all together. it wasn't right. the fonts were never right. the kerning was off. the line-spacing bugged

so it's really exciting to finally have a great looking website. and here it is.

so, for 2014 i'd like to introduce you to the new and vastly improved, genlux website.

finally. finally. finally. we have a website with a cool interface and great typography and the best part of all—it matches up beautifully with our genlux brand aesthetic.

the best news about our excitement is: you'll be getting lots of fresh content. about fashion. about photography. about philanthropic events. and about the amazing people who cross into the genlux sphere.
